Q. What will Alberta Health Care Insurance cover?
A.
  • Virtually all visits for health reasons are covered as long as your coverage is valid.
  • Some services (treatment of some warts, mole removal for cosmetic reasons) are not covered and are paid for by the patient.
  • Many visits requested by third parties (ie. insurance companies) are billed directly to the patient or the third party.
  • A list of uninsured services is available at the clinic and we can discuss these with you.
  • Please note that "back to work / school" slips and other similar forms are uninsured services, which are billed directly to the patient. You may also be charged for the office visit to complete these forms.
  • Receipts will be issued for any payment, as you may have supplemental insurance, which reimburses you for these costs.
  • If there is a concern about the ability to pay for the uninsured service, please discuss it directly with the physician, as we do try to be accommodating in these matters.

Q. Can I speak with my doctor on the phone?
A. While we understand that you may on occasion need to speak with your physician, we ask that you try to use office visits for questions. Should you feel it is necessary to speak with your physician and you are not able to wait for an appointment, we ask that you limit your calls and understand that he/she may not have a chance to return your call until the end of the office day. We thank you for your understanding and patience in this matter.

Q. Will my doctor refill my prescription over the phone?
A. Hillcrest physicians will prescribe an appropriate supply of medications for patients. If you are running low on a prescription, contact us for an appointment to review both your medication and the condition being treated. Except under very unusual circumstances, prescription refills will not be done by telephone or facsimile.

Q. Is there a pharmacy at Hillcrest Medical Clinic?

A. Yes. King Drug has a dispensary in our clinic where you can fill your prescriptions. The hours for the dispensary are:

8:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Thursday

8:30am to 4:30pm Friday

Q. What is the no show policy and why do you have one?

A. We are finding that there are several times in a day where a patient has not arrived for their appointment and because we did not receive a cancellation call, we were not able to use that time for someone else who needed to see a physician. We understand that things may come up, but ask that you call and cancel your appointment at least two hours before your appointment time. This allows us to use that time for someone else.

Our no show policy stipulates that if you fail to cancel your appointment, you will be sent an invoice. Should this occur three times within 12 months or if you decline to pay your outstanding invoice, you will no longer be able to book appointments at Hillcrest Medical Clinic.
